Satellite Networks for Captive usage : SCPC/MCPC PAMA

ISL has over the years set-up several captive networks based on SCPC/MCPC PAMA for various customers notably ONGC- Mumbai, NIC Delhi, Indian Institute of Astrophysics- Bangalore etc. These networks are realized by integrating several earth-station components like the baseband Multiplexers/routers, SCPC/MCPC Modems, RF equipment, Antennas and accessories. The subsystems used for these at ISL are sourced from world leading vendors like

ISL has indigenised various components of the standard Satellite Earth-station with a view to address the cost-conscious Indian market. These include C Band Up/Down Converters, C Band SSPAs in 5/10/20 W ranges, Antenna Tracking & Control Systems, Antenna Systems as well as Redundancy Control systems for Modems, Multiplexers and other key equipment.

ISL has also added to its product portfolio a DoT /TEC approved Multiple Channel Per Carrier (MCPC) VSAT systems for use in Rural Telephony in the DoT network. This system supports seven voice channels @ 16kbps coding as well as 4 low rate data channels aggregating upto 128 kbps. The network works in a distributed STAR architecture which fits well with the DoT framework of various circles. The product also includes the MCPC Hub equipment as well as the Network Management System (NMS) software and hardware.

Network ManagementSystem (NMS):

ISL has developed Sanchalak, the NMS software and associated hardware and for monitor and control of the network components in an SCPC/MCPC PAMA network. The NMS shall keep a centralized database having the configurational information of the network and its components and shall on a regular basis update these using the NMS channels. Any reconfigurations, error control algorithms, enabling/disabling of features etc can be achieved using this channel.   SANCHALAK is presently operational in the ONGC MCPC Network, NIC network as well as some other third party networks.

ISL has also developed comprehensive expertise in earth-station installation, Qualification Level Testing of earth station equipment like NOCC/SSOG testing, system integration, commissioning and maintenance cutting across technologies and platforms of operation.

Moreover the continuing efforts at upgrading the technologies, products and expertise has resulted in ISL assimilating and improving upon the product/solution portfolio on a regular basis.

Satellite Networks for captive usage: SCPC/TDMA/F-TDMA DAMA

Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) scheme, takes the older fixed assigned technologies forward by optimizing on the utilization of the satellite and ground resources. These systems are used in large networks with specific applications.

In case the predominant traffic pattern in the network is voice and thin route telephony with few channels per VSAT, the ideal technology is SCPC DAMA. These networks shall have a centralized Hub with the DAMA NMS resident there. The calls are setup using a dedicated control channel and these can be realized in Star, Mesh or Hybrid Topologies.

In case the traffic involves bulk data transfer, trunking and other high bandwidth applications with a dynamic diurnal traffic pattern variation, then the ideal technology is TDMA DAMA. Here the network shall be hubless with ‘intelligent’ VSATs. The networks do not need a dedicated controller for operational requirements. These are realizable in all types of topologies, with a host of other features like Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation, Service on Demand etc.

F-TDMA DAMA systems take TDMA DAMA schemes further by providing demand assignment in two dimensions i.e., in the time and frequency domains. This results in virtually unlimited network expansion capabilities with little additional investment.

ISL has strategic alliances with several of the world leading vendors for offering solutions spanning the full spectrum of DAMA technologies.
